Concrete Industry Foundation Announces Scholarship Application Deadline

The Local 608 Scholarship program provides us with another way to express our abiding interest in the members of Local 608 and their children, and to contribute to society by making the benefits of a college education available to deserving young people.

Five scholarships will be awarded annually under this program for the academic year that begins with the fall semester. Applications for these scholarships must be submitted by the date stated on the application. An application is enclosed with this brochure for your convenience.

All phases of the scholarship competition, including selection of winners and determination of the amount of each of the scholarship awards, are handled by the College Scholarship Service/Sponsored Scholarship Programs (CSS/SSP). The College Scholarship Service is a program of the College Board. Operational activities are performed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS)

THE AWARDS:
There shall be seven scholarships awarded each year under this program. The scholarships are intended to offset the costs of attending college for the purpose of attaining a bona fide undergraduate degree. Each scholarship awardee shall be paid $4,000.00 per year for as many as four years, or as much as $16,000.00. After each year, the scholarship shall be renewed provided that the recipient has had satisfactory grades from the previous year and the recipient's parent who is a member has satisfied his or her membership in good standing requirements.

Each award will be sent directly to the college at which the winner is enrolled, and credited to the winner's account for payment of authorized college expenses (tuition, room and board for college operated accommodations, and all documented matriculation and other usual and similar fees).

Disbursements of stipends will be co-payable to the institution and the recipient. Disbursements are subject to the institution's scholarship policy.

All scholarships shall be paid from the general funds of the Local Union. Therefore, if claims of General creditors of the Local Union shall be large enough to require use of the sums Set aside for the purpose of this article for payment, it could be necessary to reduce or terminate payments under this article.
